A Different Point of View

A Different Point of View is an organization whose mission is to Engage, Inspire and Transform youth into successful and positive leaders of the future. Using a flight lesson as a launching pad we show these youth, many who have never been farther than their neighborhood, that their world is bigger than they know and has more to offer than they can imagine. Our goal is to change the course of their history by showing them a world that engages and inspires them, a world where opportunties are abundant and where life is a rich, exciting and promising endeavor.

Who We Work With

The primary charitable purpose of A Different Point of View is to provide at-risk youth between the ages of 13 and 18 opportunities to expand their perspectives through life-enhancing activities such as flight lessons. Through mentoring and these series of flight lessons youth:

Become engaged with the world around them
Are exposed to a world that they have never seen before
Gain a new sense of self and self-confidence
Begin to understand that they have the talent and ability to pursue their dreams
Are transformed with a positive vision for their future

Working with organizations throughout the County ADPOV provides services for youth from across Santa Barbara County. Youth in the program come from all walks of life including:

Foster care
Criminal justice system
Treatment programs
Probation

After the First Flight Lesson

Flight lessons and mentoring are the primary focus and activity for ADPOV. However we also have "Discovery Days" for youth – further experiences that expand the realm of what they have been exposed to in their lives. These experiences, along with advanced flight lessons, are rewards for positive engagement in school and responsible behavior.
